Assessment of Projections and Coordinate Systems

Using the wrong map projection and coordinate system results in skewed maps and measurements, and outright misrepresentations of Earth’s features.  This lab exercise introduces the learner to projections and coordinate systems used to flatten the spherical earth for use on flat maps.  Moreover, this lab helps the user evaluate the distortion caused by various map projections and methods for choosing the right projection. Users will learn how to:

Use ArcGIS Pro to transform geographic data using projections.
Assess the distortion associated with various Earth projections.
Use ArcGIS Pro to permanently define projection parameters.

This course is expected to take roughly 90 minutes to complete.

Target Audience
Interested in maps and accurate data.  Familiar with Windows 10.  New to or intermediate experience with ArcGIS Pro.
